FAQ

Psychotherapy is a process in which a client works in close collaboration with a mental health practitioner to reduce distressing emotional experiences (i.e. depression, anxiety), change behaviors (i.e. substance use, anger outbursts), and improve relationships, work, and other life activities.  The structure of therapy varies significantly according to the needs of the client, and the particular difficulty being treated. A standard therapy "hour" is 50 minutes. If you are interested in treatment or have questions, I am happy to schedule a brief introductory conversation with you in person or by telephone. Please contact me as soon as possible if you will be canceling or rescheduling an appointment. For appointments cancelled less than 48 hours in advance, you will be billed for the missed session. Cancellation requests may be made by either voicemail or email.

Insurance and Payment:

My fee is $190 for a 45 minute session. I do offer a sliding scale based on income . My fees for individual and family counseling are comparable to other licensed professionals in the Bay Area. I accept cash, check, or credit cards and am an in-network provider for Blue Shield. I work with other insurance panels as an out of network provider, and can offer you billing paperwork to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.   Many private plans do provide significant out-of-network benefits, which may reimburse you 50-100% of the cost of therapy. If you are unclear about your insurance policy, I will be happy to help you find out what mental health services are covered. Fees you pay for therapy services that are not reimbursed by insurance may be deductible as medical expenses if you itemize deductions on your tax return.
